We’re welcomed back to the state of Pennsylvania with rain and a 3.90 toll. Does that amount seem odd to anyone else?
We’re somewhere in the middle of Ohio now, taking a quick pit stop. Looks like if we’re lucky, we’ll make it home by four.
We heard the cells of Notre Dame ring and now we are off on another day’s journey
Passing the Iowa 80 truck stop. Six hours down, four to go—for today!
It is a brisk morning and we are on the road loaded with souvenirs, gifts and other surprises we are sure
cows, corn and BIG learning curves!
The other day I was invited to go feed cows. Cool. This is where the learning curve begins (it is very low on the charts.) In my head I had an idea (it was wrong) that when you feed cows you take a bucket with feed (don’t ask me what’s IN the bucket), put your hand in the bucket, take your hand out and somehow let the cow feed from your hand. I realize in hindsight that I was thinking...
We’re getting ready for our first worship service here at Augustana. Sarah will be preaching and I’m playing some guitar. Should be great!
Genoa Indian School
On Tuesday we visited the Genoa Indian School and the museum. Did you know that Genoa is considered the Pawnee Capital of Nebraska? I didn’t know this either. Apparently, during the mid 19th century the Pawnee were gathered here and Genoa became the site of their reservation. At one time there were 30,000 Pawnee in the county. In the late 1870s the Pawnee were having many issues with the area...
Central Time
This is the first time I’ve ever been in a different time zone.
I know, that’s a pretty big admission. Sarah’s been as far west as Seattle, but I’ve only been out to western Pennsylvania before this trip. And the time zone thing has always made me curious.
When you cross into the time zone, is there a sign? I didn’t see one, but I was also driving through a...
We have (finally!) arrived in beautiful Genoa Nebraska! More to come later. Now: Pizza!
One hundred miles to Omaha!
Kinda feel like I’m playing a real life version of Oregon Trail. I hope Sarah doesn’t get cholera. Anyway—oxen are rested, let’s ride!
Almost out of Indiana. Just watched an Amish man add washer fluid to his van. Bonus: Guy smoking a cigar while pumping gas.
O, Hi O
During our trip to the great state of Nebraska we decided to visit our friend Adam who lives in Toledo, Ohio. He’s a vicar at Salem Lutheran Church and is enjoying his vicarage year doing ministry in the heart of the city. I expect that the differences between Toledo and Genoa, NE are notable, but perhaps I can write about this with more certainty AFTER I visit Nebraski.
Adam was telling us...
Only 126 miles to beautiful Toledo! Hope this snow doesn’t get any thicker!
OHAIO. Welcome Center forty miles from the border. Light snow and heavy tolls!
First pit stop. We’re somewhere in western Pennsylvania, and Sarah is now at the wheel. Toledo or bust.
